I still remember September 11th. I was just a kid in elementary school, sitting in my classroom watching everything unfold on TV. I remember seeing my teachers cry. I didn’t fully understand what was happening, but even as a little kid, I knew something terrible had happened. My mom worked at an American Airlines call center at the time, and I remember she didn’t get home until around 10 PM that night. There are certain details from that day that just never leave you. So many lives were lost. So many families were changed forever. And even 25 years later, there are first responders, survivors, and others still living with illnesses, loss, and the lasting effects of that day. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Ground Zero in New York, and standing there as an adult hit me in a way I wasn’t prepared for. I stood there and prayed. I prayed for the families who lost someone that day. I prayed for the people who survived but have carried the physical and emotional effects ever since. I prayed for the firefighters, police officers, and first responders who ran toward danger when everyone else was trying to get away. I prayed for my brothers and sisters in arms. For those who answered the call to serve after 9/11, for those who never made it home, and for those still serving overseas today. Afterward, I walked over to a firehouse near Ground Zero and met a firefighter named Sal. We talked for a while, and I had the privilege of listening to him share some of his experience from that day. Standing there, talking to someone who actually lived through it, is something I’ll never forget. I was a kid when 9/11 happened. I didn’t fully understand it then. Standing at Ground Zero all these years later, I understood it in a completely different way. The lives lost. The families left behind. The first responders. The service members. The sacrifice. 25 years later, we remember… 🇺🇸🙏🏻 Never Forget. 9/11/2001.

A new chapter.
